Heater Theatre Show 2

at the Heater Theatre
April 13 - May 17, 2020
* Extended until the 3rd Heater Theatre show

β€œThe wide days split life open like an ax. When I sketched or painted the island shore, even with the most literal intentions, the work twined into the infinite again and dissolved, or the infinite assaulted the page again and required me to represent it. My pen piled the page with changing clouds, multiple suns, circles, spirals, and rays. I used the pages at night to light fires.”
- Annie Dillard, The Writing Life, 1989

Humans are from nature and also removed, we are interlocutors, sometimes with our mouths agape in awe and sometimes with an axe in hand and eyes turned blind. In most cases, all we can do is point to our longing for connection and the gap between knowing and experiencing.

This program of video works gives shape to human attempts at communing with the natural world, exemplifies ways that we metaphorically use nature to speak about existence, and translates Earth forms into language.

Handle is curated by Lease Agreement and features work by Jessica Bardsley, Benjamin Zellmer Bellas, Lindsey French, Meredith Leich, Dionne Lee, Ellen Mueller & Phil McCollam, Dawn Roe, Scott Stark, and Hennessy Youngman (Jayson Musson).
