Jennifer Reeder

The 12th Street Bar and Lease Agreement present two short films, Lola, 15 (5 min, 2017) and Blood Below the Skin (32 min, 2015) by artist and director Jennifer Reeder.

Jennifer Reeder constructs personal films about relationships, trauma and coping. Her award-winning narratives are innovative and borrow from a range of forms including after school specials, amateur music videos and magical realism. These films have shown consistently around the world, including the Sundance Film Festival, The Berlin Film Festival, The Venice Biennale and The Whitney Biennial.

She recently founded a social justice initiative called TRACERS BOOK CLUB which has been featured recently at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago and won a Propeller Fund Grant for a year of radical programming around the theme of “women’s work.”

Jennifer Reeder received an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is currently an Associate Professor in Moving Image and the Head of the Art Department in the School of Art and Art History at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She lives in Indiana with her three young children.
